My work is often reflective of life growing up on a working farm. I learned to understand the cycles of life, growth, and death by watching the animals we tended and raised. A large number of my personal pieces started as reminders of these lessons, but my work has grown to include a larger idea - “what does it mean to be human?” I see very human emotions expressed through the way an animal stands, through the curl of a lip, even the empathy shown in taking care of another. Looking for and finding these signals has led me to believe and express in my work, that animals and humans are much more alike than we are different. Who are we to say a hippo can’t feel sexy, or a pig glamorous?
